What should I take firearms hiking? I intend to hike in Florida, where there are bears, snakes, alligators and panthers. I do not intend to injure, or hunting animals. And I do not want to hurt them at all if it comes to this subject. What type of gun would be best to proceed, which is lightweight and could prevent a bear.?
Thank you (=
Stop a bear ...
the average adult male black bear in the lower 48 is estimated to weigh about 300 pounds.
handgun ...
0.44 mag with at least a 6 "barrel, nothing less ...
shooting a heavy penetrating, non-expansion or deep ball and you should opt for the central nervous system (usually the brain). It works, but you must be able to hit the central nervous system to 100% of the time under stress, which few people can do. If you're not an experienced handgunner and / or are not willing to practice regularly with your cannon to bear, I suggest you choose to give up a handgun. Remember that accurate ball placement is the key to stopping power!
A better plan is to take along a friend ... you do not need to run the bear just your friend
If you encounter a grizzly bear and shoots you, he will always live long enough to maul you. However, a black bear is another story.
If a grizzly bear to the death.
If a black bear that you have to make a fuss and fight. Gouge his eyes, growth etc.
Get a high-powered rifle.
There is no light gun to stop a bear. But before trying a gun, you'd better check with the local police about carrying firearms. I also want to check on the area you plan to hike in. Many are safer than others.
Leave the gun at home. If you do not shoot anything you are in violation of a whole bunch of laws. If you think it is so dangerous that you must carry a weapon, then in the interest of safety, you should stay home.
