Leather shoes are not waterproof, but there are various products on the market to help make the leather water and weather. My father's leather shoe spray with WD-40 and it seems to work. Some people use baby oil to keep leather soft, supple and strong rain, and days in winter Vaseline salt removes the old sea salt and maintains new leave these white spots. The oil and Vaseline can discolor some leathers. There are much safer options for footwear against the elements.
Verify that a better shop for expensive shoes products, or check a shoe repair shop, they are waxes and oils that will make your leather shoes from water and weather resistant. I live in Canada and I wear leather boots in the rain wind and snow, but I use products that keep them in good stead. The mink oil magically winter boots in leather and makes it almost totally impervious to water. There is also the beeswax, silicone treatments ... many options. Here is a webpage with a number of things, I know nothing about the store, but you can see what is available for the care of the shoe.
