The dreaded word Thong Being a teacher I must be very careful with my vocabulary. Even when I'm saying words I must be careful to ensure that students do not misinterpret what I say. If I did not do that, there may be times very embarrassing because the student has misheard or misunderstood what I said. I want to be a good example to my students and use words appropriately and avoid embarrassing situations. Using less familiar words help students build vocabulary and some of them look like the words they do not know or try to understand what I said ..
Over the last two years I found myself once more facing a classroom full of students with their mouths hanging open, looking at me with astonishment. How dare I say? Then I found myself explaining to them that when I was young, this word has a meaning different from what it is today. Now, over the years what has happened with a few words such as gay. Many songs used as follows: "Let us all happy and gay," but not homosexuals that our students think. Gay is not too hard to explain to students and they make fun of him. But the word leaves them no other with astonished eyes. So what's the word. The word is "string". Now, when I was young "string" is what you wear on your feet. Today, students refer to them as thongs.
This has led to several embarrassing moments when I told the kids they can not wear flip flops on a field trip and I will not leave them on the bus if they have. Their answer, of course, is "Will you check?" Oops!
To correct this error, I decided to find alternative words to use items that I bring to my feet. Boy, what a list. When I went for the list is so long that I had to choose. Obviously our society multicultured adopted many words from other cultures shoes. So now I made a list of words I can use for shoes. I do not know there were so many, and these are just the ones I heard.
Covers what I called, they are now arctic, boots, galoshes, ski boots, slippers, waders, rubber storm, slaps,
sports shoes, tennis shoes and what I have called them, they are now sneakers, Nike running shoes, smart shoe, sport sandals, DAP shoes, boat shoes, drugs, flyers, gymmers, high- above, joggers, Saboga, Skipper, steals shoes, speed, sports shoes and track shoes and fight odor eaters.
Then when you go out into the street and look down at those shoes through, and you will see: loafers, mules, moccasins, sandals, platforms, pumps, lace, rubber boots,
cleats, harnesses pumps, clogs, slippers, tap, shoes, spurs, spikes, ballet slippers, roller skates and thongs. Warning flip flops and wedges. Oh, oh, I'll have to choose another wedge or that I'll have another class shocked.
