I'm looking to purchase a good pair of hiking boots with a goretex lining, not sure are the best.? I looked at different brands and noted that Salomon Shoes Vibram soles have not, but something called Contagrip. Is it as good for traction on slippery surfaces such as mud, wet rocks?
Go to a place like Graham Tiso, and get your shoes fit well. Goretex is ideal for clothes, but if you want a pair of boots that will last, and you may have to resole the future, go for the traditional leather. Raichle, Brasher or are very good. Be sure to rub well with Nikkwax, or similar, when new, it makes them more flexible and works well in sealing in. Get a pair of gaiters too. They will keep your legs dry when slogging through the heather or bracken. Good luck.
